Recover Existing Furniture VS. Purchasing New Furniture
Ellie Ann's Interior Design | North Dakota Interior Designer
Have you ever wondered when is it best to recover existing furniture vs. purchasing brand new? This very question came up with two well-styled classic wing chairs that this homeowner had acquired years ago.
Questions to ask before making a decision:
What is the quality of furniture?
Should you replace furniture with similar style/line OR should you replace with furniture that is entirely different?
To answer that question, first, we determined the quality of the chairs. Because this homeowner made a wise purchase of quality furniture in the beginning, it was decided that these were indeed worth recovering. The second question that needed to be answered by the homeowner was whether she would replace these chairs with a similar style/line or if she would replace them with something entirely different.
After discussion it was determined that she would purchase basically the same chair. Recovering of the existing chairs made sense. Sourcing fabrics to freshen the look of the chairs was all that was needed to give the homeowner the sense of having something new for their home design.
Reasons to repurpose:
It is a green choice! SAVE OUR PLANET
When recovering furniture these days, it’s not that you are seeking to save money more than it is that you are saving our planet. It is a green choice as you are reusing rather then throwing away. This is something to keep in mind: by purchasing the best quality that you can afford in your home design, makes you a better steward to the environment. The re-upholstery of the chairs turned out darling and certainly was worth it!
This story ends for here, with one more chapter to come for this home.
