The Story of the Well-Edited Sophistication

Photography by Jill Ockhardt

I have completed numerous jobs for this client; the beginning chapters started in her previous home, current chapters completed in her last home at this address, and future chapters will be completed at her new residence in an entirely new town.

This story will begin with the hall guest bathroom.

You wouldn’t think there is too much of a transformation that can happen with a guest bath when you are working with the exact same footprint would you?  Surprise! Yes, you can achieve a dramatic and fun transformation that not only is aesthetically pleasing and functional BUT that also appears as though you added square footage to the space.

How was this achieved?  By incorporating different size formats of the same tile for floor, walls, and shower walls with a classic Moroccan mosaic in the same color family as the main tile.  The original shower surround was taken out and replaced with a beautiful tiled shower complete with a glass door. Adding a change of paint, cabinet hardware, quartz countertop, lighting, and mirror made the design further connected and polished.  The wow statement came from a large-scale black and white canvas on the back wall that you see immediately upon entering.

With the excitement of this project under our belts, the next project came to the opening up of the dining room to the living room with custom cabinetry made to coordinate with the existing cabinetry and granite tops.  This brought wonderful light into the dining room from the living room bay window. It also brought more connection of space amongst the main floor public spaces.

The next chapter involves the Master Suite with the completion of a custom tile design for the shower surround that coordinated with the existing floor tile.  Paint, artwork, custom window treatments, and new hardware made the bathroom portion of this phase complete.

Then the fun really began!  A unique metal artwork panel acting as a layered headboard effect was incorporated in the Master Bedroom.  The stunning focal this created grabs you immediately as you enter and makes this Master Bedroom anything but ordinary.  The design and fabric choice of the custom window treatment brings more depth with the layering of textures and pattern that compliments the metal artwork cohesively.  The carpet was ripped out and replaced with gorgeous wide plank wood flooring that is stained in a deep, rich color. This same, rich flooring was applied in the living room as well.  Custom sized area rugs were incorporated in both spaces to anchor the rooms with softness, texture, and pattern.

This story ends for now with more chapters to come.  Start living your well-edited sophisticated life too.  You’d be surprised how much it pays back to you in ways you never imagined.

With livable sophistication,
